Rock Collection Project

Our science lab instructor, Mrs. Swain, assigned the students the Rock Collection project, which is due on the morning of Thursday, March 21st. Each student should collect at least 8 different rocks or minerals in order to identify them. The students must not know the type of rock or mineral collected (it would defeat the purpose of attempting to identify it in science lab). Please use an ordinary egg carton to collect them, numbering the rocks or minerals #1-8. If anyone has extra egg cartons at their house, please bring them in for students who do not have one to use for collecting. Thank you!

Puberty Talk

All of the families should have already received an email from our school nurse in regards to the upcoming event, Puberty Talk, scheduled for Thursday, March 21st at 2pm. I will be leading the 5th grade boys' discussion, while Nurse Lorraine will lead the 5th grade girls' discussion. Adolescence is something to praise God for, so we look forward to this time to begin the conversation about taking care of our bodies and forming healthy habits. Parents, this is an opt-out event, so please contact one of our school nurses if you would prefer not to have your child attend. We would love to give you any information if you have questions about the topics we will be covering, so please let us know.

Meals for the Dutts

After Katy Dutt's surgery, many families were wondering how they might be able to help. Katy's friend Lori is organizing meals. Her email is loribarr@comcast.net. If you email her with a subject line of "Meals for the Dutts" then she will add you to the online meal planner she is using. An email will be sent to you with the link, and you can sign up for a day that works best for you.

Marydee Sklar Classes at West Hills

Marydee Sklar is returning to West Hills this spring to teach her Executive Functioning Course to our interested families. This class may especially be of interest to parents if your child struggles with any one of the following: lack of focus, late assignments, difficulty managing multiple tasks or completing tasks, or needs multiple reminders.
The Introductory Class is on Tuesday, March 12, from 7:00-8:15pm in the 7th/8th grade large classroom. This class is a “stand-alone class,” and open to any parent curious about organizational skills and the “thinking” behind it. The cost for West Hills families is $10 per family.
The 7-Week Tuesday Night Class runs from April 2 - May 14, from 7:00-8:30pm in the science lab. The cost for West Hills families is $250 for one parent and one child. Additional family members are $20 each.
Marydee does require a minimum of eight full paying families in order to conduct the class. For more information and to register online, click here to visit her website.
