Field Trip: Neighborhood House (Group 1)

We will be going on our first trip to serve at Neighborhood House on Tuesday, October 24th! It will be a great opportunity to serve with our hands, donate our time to help our neighbors, and learn about the great things people are doing to help others in the city. We will be splitting the class into two groups, and only one group will go at a time. The second group will be going on November 7th. I have chosen the groups and the students will be notified on Monday. Please read the important information about Neighborhood House HERE, which includes the waiver you need to print and sign. If you don't have a working printer at home, let me know and I can print it at school and send it home. Feel free to let me know if you have additional questions!

Donations Needed For Our First Riedl Bank Auction

Coming up on October 27th is our very first auction. The leadership team will be running the auction, but in order for it to run smoothly, we need donated items to auction off!

I do not want anyone to go out and buy items for the auction. I believe that we can find many items at home that can be donated to find a new home with someone else in class. If you have any items that might be of value to someone else (remember, one person's trash is another person's treasure!), then please bring it in! Mr. Riedl will make the final decision of whether or not it will be auctioned off or not. Some ideas might be home-made duct-tape wallets or bags, stuffed animals in good condition, neglected trinkets or gadgets, or even cookies or brownies baked with love! Another idea might be to ask a local business to donate items to support our classroom economy. Donors can either be anonymous or known, and I'm thinking about donating some items myself... maybe a few homework passes or maybe a special Pez dispenser! We'll see! Let me know if you have any questions!!

Space Project

The fifth graders are designing and constructing models of space projects to present in Science Lab on Wednesday, November 8th. The projects are to be made at home using materials found in the home. Please do not go out and spend money on this project. Lego pieces and similar toys can be used as part of the project if the design is original. No pre-made projects. The projects should be small enough to fit on a desk top. Ideas may include but are not limited to: A model of a space station, a device to help astronauts eat/drink/work in space, a space suit, a spacecraft, robot/rover with a specific purpose, a tool to use in space, a space colony or biosphere, design a sport to play in space, etc. Please direct any questions to Mr. Riedl or Mrs. Swain. Have fun creating!
