Festive classroom doors!

December 12 - 15, 2016

   Well, after an unexpected 4-day weekend due to the snow and ice last week, it will be good to have a few more days together before Christmas Break officially begins! For those of you who did not receive Mrs. Brumley's announcement of the postponed Christmas Concert, it is now scheduled for Monday morning at 8:30am. Visit her Music website for more details. Additionally, I plan to be absent from school on Wednesday to visit my son, Nolan, at school for his own music performance. The students will have a blast with the substitute, since my former student teacher, Mr. Johnson, will be filling in for me! Make it a great week, everyone!

Topics to Talk About at Home

First, be sure to talk about what to get as a gift for your Reading Buddy (more details below). Second, this is the last week before the end of the trimester, so Thursday is the last day I accept late/missing work and any Correction Forms to earn extra points to improve grades. Log in to Renweb to view grades online (I'll update grades on Monday) and go through each subject with your child to ask them how they feel about their grades. Additionally, the students will receive their Graded Work Packets on Monday since there was no school last Friday.

Gifts for Reading Buddies

We will be exchanging gifts with our Reading Buddies in 1st grade at our Reading Buddy Christmas Party. Gifts should either be hand-made or less than $5 total if store-bought. The party will be on Thursday, Dec. 15th, at 1pm in our classroom, and we will participate in fun activities together, exchange gifts, have story time, and eat some tasty popcorn! We are excited!!

Officially Switched to Bloomz

It is not typical of me to switch my method of communication to parents midway through the year. However, when I discovered Bloomz several weeks ago, I couldn't contain my excitement for it! Not only does it do most everything that Remind does (free app, email or text notifications), but it also includes easier methods for sharing links, photos, calendar events, and communication between parents.

You will still be able to contact me via Remind, but I will no longer send newsletter updates via Remind. Bloomz will be my main method of communication from now on. So, if you haven't already joined us on Bloomz, then go to bloomz.com, click "Join Bloomz" and enter VJ4VDG to join my class. You'll see some pics of the students I already posted.
