Math work time at the standing table
May 15 - 19, 2017

I hope all the moms had a Happy Mother's Day! Thanks so much for all your hard work at home with your kids!! Classroom supply update: We are running very low on Kleenex. Can a few parents please send a box with their child? Just a few more boxes should last us the rest of the year. Thank you! This week is MAP Week, so please read details below about making sure to allow for plenty of rest at home and other tips for accurate demonstration of student learning this year. Make it a great week, everyone!

Topics to Talk About at Home

As a class, we have been extremely close to earning our second whole-class reward! This is earned with good behavior and rewarded with packs of Pez from the giant Pez dispensers. The class only has a few packs left, but it seems like every time I see good behavior one step closer, the class as a whole has a difficult time focusing and staying on task later that day, taking one step backward. Please talk at home about this, and share reminders about how each student is a leader in the class and each is needed to encourage their peers to do their best for their education (and also earning their reward!).

Measuring Academic Progress (MAP)

Spring MAP begins this week. Just a reminder, MAP is the standardized testing used at West Hills to track student growth as they continually learn more. To ensure results that accurately reflect student knowledge, it is important that each student has plenty of rest, has a good breakfast and lunch, and does not have interruptions (i.e. doctor appointment) during the time of their tests. Let me know if you have any questions about the following schedule for our class:
   - Monday, May 15th, 2:00-3:00pm
   - Tuesday, May 16th, 2:10-3:00pm
   - Wednesday, May 17th, 2:00-3:00pm
   - Thursday, May 18th, 2:10-3:00pm

Other School-wide Events

Be sure to read the WHCS Weekly News to learn more about other school-wide events at West Hills Christian School. It is emailed to the entire school regularly on Friday afternoons. Thanks so much!
