Timeless Tips

There are times during the day that I want to remind my students about certain behaviors that will be beneficial to them in their future. I don't necessarily give them a consequence for breaking these, I usually just want to give them a tip or suggestion for how to act.

Timeless Tip #1 - Always say “May I please...” when asking for something. There is no excuse for not being polite.
Timeless Tip #2 - Always say thank you when you receive something. There is no excuse for not showing appreciation.
Timeless Tip #3 - Congratulate someone if they do something well. Appropriate claps are at least three seconds long.
Timeless Tip #4 - Answer all written questions with a complete sentence. For example, if the question asks, “What is the capital of Russia?” you should respond by writing, “The capital of Russia is Moscow.” Also, in conversation with others, it is important to use complete sentences out of respect for the person’s question. For example, if a person asks, “How are you?” instead of just responding by saying, “Fine,” you should say, “I’m doing fine, thank you. How about yourself?”
Timeless Tip #5 - Make eye contact when someone is speaking. If a person makes a comment, turn to look at them.
Timeless Tip #6 - At times thoughout the year, I will give rewards. If you ever ask me for a reward, however, it will not be given. It is rude to ask if you are getting something for good behavior. You should be good because you are trying to better yourself, not because you are anticipating a reward.
Timeless Tip #7 - Do not complain about who you sit next to in class. Do not exclude someone when doing group work. We are a family, and we must treat one another with respect and kindness.
Timeless Tip #8 - Accept that you are going to make mistakes. Learn from them and move on.
