Fifth Grade Shake Music Video!

Both fifth grade classes joined forces to bring you these end-of-the-year videos for the 2014-2015 school year!

The fifth graders had a lot of fun filming, and they gave up a lot of recess time! Almost 100% of the filming took place during recesses over the past two months. What a great way to remember the school year! All of our students were filmed for the main video, including our reading buddies, and there was plenty of footage for a hilarious blooper video too!

Most of the ideas for each of the scenes also came from the students. Usually I just told them, "Alright, what do you want to do? Where are we going to go?" Without their ideas and help, it would not have been such a success! Great job, you guys!! :-)

Hoop Day was Auto Awesome on Google+

I have been having fun with my Google+ photos recently, especially with the "Auto Awesome" images that are automatically created after uploading photos that fulfill certain specific requirements. In the posts embedded below, the "Motion" Auto Awesome photos created animated gifs from a series of photos I took during Hoop Day. Enjoy! Dancing Dubstep Violin: Lindsey Stirling

When Lindsey Stirling was on America's Got Talent, she called herself the "Hip-hop violinist". After getting voted off the show, her career skyrocketed as she now has close to 3 million subscribers on YouTube.

She is classically trained, but after a few years of playing she started to get burnt out. Deciding to try something new and be herself, she added dance, dubstep, and anything else creative to make it fun for her and her fans.

I watched the video below (Shadows) and was immediately hooked. What I loved was not only her skills playing the violin, but also her creativity with the video, dancing, and making it fun! I hope you enjoy it too. Check out the video below and see other creative works on her YouTube channel.

Lip Dub video! - Books of the Old Testament

I finished editing the video! The 5th graders worked amazingly hard filming the video, and the final product is revealed below! We discovered the song on YouTube just a few weeks ago, memorized the books of the Old Testament, and decided to film a lip dub video. It seems like an easy task, but wow! What a lot of hard work. It definitely shows.

Download mp3 of Books of the OT song

Earlier this week I posted the YouTube video of the song we are using in class to memorize the books of the Old Testament. In class I also announced that we will be making a lip dub video of the song to share with other West Hills students when we lead chapel on May 1st.

In order to provide as many ways as possible to memorize the song and prepare for the video, I have turned the YouTube video into an mp3 that you can download to listen to on your mp3 player, iPod, smartphone, or an other device that plays music. I have already put it into my Google Music account and am able to listen to it wherever I go.

I want to make sure I give credit to the original artist who created the song, victorianorman on YouTube. I am not sure if he sang the full version with the humorous baby carrot story, or if he created the animation, but that version is below as well.

Song: Books of the Old Testament

I presented this YouTube video to my students to help them learn the books of the Old Testament. Just as I had hoped, it has become a virus, and many of my students are humming it or singing it throughout the day. Sometimes too much! It is even stuck in my head right now... but that's okay, because I love this song.

I also included an embedded document (below) that you can print off if you want lyrics to go with it (students will receive this tomorrow in class).

Awesome Ohio State Marching Band Performance

For all my students who have played in band and also those who love video games...

Check out this awesome performance of the Ohio State University marching band. The theme was "Video Games" and features Pokemon, Tetris, Mario Bros, Halo, Zelda, and Pac-Man. My favorite part is definitely the running horse at 6:07 so don't miss it!

My Song for Taylor Swift

I just found this video of a 5th grade girl who wrote a song about Taylor Swift and anti-bullying. She says in the video that she discovered that Taylor Swift was bullied in school and decided to write the song. Although she may need a few vocal lessons, she's really good and the song is pretty catchy with a great message. This is for all my 5th graders in class who love Taylor Swift! :-)

I have been subscribed to Joe's (a.k.a. Mystery Guitar Man) YouTube channel for awhile now, and I am continually amazed by his creativity. I can totally see this catching on with my students! It reminds me of pen spinning. I love how the geometric shapes and angles burst into the video. So cool. Gotta integrate this into my math classes somehow.

New Rebecca Black Music Video

Her first music video, "Friday" was a painfully catchy song that often got stuck in my head. It even led me to do crazy things like actually play the video for my 8th graders!
Well, a new music video, titled "My Moment" is on YouTube and it actually seems legit. It is tolerable and I have a feeling I'll actually enjoy listening to it once it grows on me. Check out the video below. What do you think?
